The AIDA 1&2 STAR course is by far the most popular way to get in to freediving as it combines the 1st and 2nd levels of the AIDA educational ladder in a fun 2 day course.  This freediving course will make you a competant freediver in just 2 days.

By the end of the course you will have covered

  • Equipment for freediving
  • Freediving breathing
  • Equalisation techniques
  • General Freediving Safety and Buddy Safety.
  • Preparation breathing
  • Efficiency of movement
  • Static apnea training for breath-holds of over 2 minutes
  • Freediving equipment
  • Duck diving techniquesEqualisation and the issues associated with it
  • Body posture
  • Finning style
  • Deep dives to a minimum of 16m
  • Dynamic apnea (distance) of 40m or more

Day one

We start the day with basic freediving theory and cover the aspects of correct breathing. Then onto a couple of hours of pool training to put what you’ve learned into practice. We cover static breath holds, dynamic apnea and rescues.

In the afternoon, we start our open water theory and relaxation training, focussing on how to achieve perfect breathing technique whilst diving on a float with a line. Then we begin with free immersion dives and cover again how to rescue a buddy, but this time at depth. At FreediveNZ we put all our effort in to training you to achieve perfect form, concentrating on efficiency of movement as our primary goal.

Day two

On your second day freediving you will learn how to push yourself further and dive to depth in open water. Dive lines and lanyards are used for your safety. We conduct our deep dives from boat charter in order to give you the best quality instruction and the most exciting diving on the day. After free immersion dives we focus on constant weight dives to complete the depth requirements for the course.  The exam will be completed either at the end of day one or two… so be prepared and read your notes before attending.
